About Bluetooth
Bluetooth is an ideal wireless platform for communicating large amounts of data within a short range. Bluetooth is great for applications where a computer is not too far away from a device, but you just don't want to bother with connecting wires. It's found its home in all kinds of peripheral devices and now has found a new home in embedded control applications. Bluetooth, as it pertains to the NCD product line, is the easiest of all wireless technologies to implement. It is only easier than ZigBee because it has NO drivers (our ZigBee modems use a USB driver). However, to be technically correct, the driver is already on your computer, as it is part of the Bluetooth protocol. Like all NCD devices, once the drivers are installed, you are ready to talk to the device as though it were directly connected to the COM port of your computer. So Bluetooth is just as easy to use as any other device.
Pairing NCD Devices Over a Bluetooth Connection
NCD Bluetooth devices need to be paired with a Bluetooth connection on your computer. This involves opening the Bluetooth control panel on your computer, pressing the "pairing" button on our controller, and finally, using the Bluetooth control panel to add the device to the Bluetooth network. Once paired, the NCD part number will appear in your Bluetooth control panel, and a new COM port will be available for use on your computer. A Blue LED on our controller will NOT light up until you begin communicating with the device. To communicate to the device, all you have to do is open the new Bluetooth COM port at 115.2K baud and start sending commands. The Blue LED on our controller will light as soon as the port is opened.
Bluetooth Relay is Here!
A more streamlined manufacturing process brings a more durable, reliable and better built relay board to the market. Here’s a few features:
Advantages of Bluetooth Communications
Your laptop or PDA can probably talk to it with no additional hardware.
VERY EASY TO USE. Acts like a COM port on your PC, so write your software accordingly.
Limited 100 Meter Range in Compared to ZigBee Devices in the Same Price Category, Which are Capable of 1 Mile
Fastest Wireless Communication Speed we have Seen.
Overall, the Most Convenient Choice for Wireless Communication to NCD Devices
Added Features
Built-in Analog to Digital Conversion
Control One Relay, a Bank of Relays, or All 256 Relays at Once
Server Reboot, Watchdog, Keep Alive Duration/Pulse Timing Command Set
This is a ProXR Controller
The ProXR Command Set
The BTADR220PROXR is a ProXR Controller, ProXR refers to a
set of standardized commands used for computer control and data collection. The BTADR220PROXR controller is built to control up to 256 relays, using the XR Expansion Port. This allows you to add additional banks of relays (any kind of relays you need),
directly to the BTADR220PROXR board. With a few minor programming modifications,
you will be controlling the new relay banks in seconds. Up to
256 relays (32 Banks of 8 Relays) are Supported. You can now control individual relays, relay banks, or all
relays at one time.
ProXR commands will be sent to the BTADR220PROXR via the Bluetooth Wireless Interface. Simply develop your programs to work with the com port of your computer and let ProXR controllers manage the rest. Detailed information about the ProXR command set can be found in the
ProXR Manual. In Addition, the ProXR Command set also includes addition 16 background
timers, ideal for watchdog, keep alive, server reboot, and duration
timing applications and are fully explained in the manual.
XR Expansion Port
The BTADR220PROXR board is equipped with an XR Expansion port. This port is used to chain relay controllers together, making it easy to add relay banks as your needs grow. We offer a large line of
relay expansion boards, ready to attach to the XR port of your controller. You can add all types of relay expansion banks in any combination to this ProXR series controller.
Analog to Digital Conversion
The BTADR220PROXR board is also equipped with Analog to Digital Conversion which allow you to read voltage levels from 0-5 volts DC using 8-bit or 10-bit resolution. This is particularly useful for reading temperature sensors. A/D Inputs are also useful for reading light level sensors, thermocouples, switch closures, or just about any other kind of sensor you can think of. Built-In Pull-Up/Down Resistors keep the inputs quiet.
Analog to Digital conversion on this BTADR220PROXR board is the process of converting a voltage to a number. The higher the voltage (not exceeding 5VDC), the higher the number. 8-Bit Analog to Digital Converters offers numeric values from 0-255.
NCD Component Library Has A/D Samples!
Fully functioning Analog to Digital Conversion programs are included with the NCD Component Library. With the NCD Component Library we've "started" the programming for you. We say started because these are fully functioning samples but we've also included the source code so you can customize them to your exact needs. The NCD Component Library is a plug-in for the Visual Studio 2005/2008 that greatly simplifies the communications to the NCD product line. Eight different A/D samples are available including, to view screen shots of each sample visit our
NCD Component Library Page.
The above screen shot show one of the eight available fully functioning A/D samples that are available with the
NCD Component Library.
