USB Potentiometer with XR Expansion Port

8-Channels of Potentiometer Outputs allow
256 Levels of Programmable Resistance Outputs.

XR Expansion Port Allows you to Control
up to 256 External Relays!

Our UPOT Series controllers offer our customers the capability of integrating programmable digital potentiometers into their next computer control application.  Potentiometers are available in 10K, 50K, and 100K values.  Each potentiometer output can be set to any of 256 possible output values.  Each potentiometer may be controlled individually, or you may control all potentiometers simultaneously.

This device is expandable to 256 potentiometer output channels using additional UPOT16 expansion modules.  This device offers a USB interface that mounts as a Virtual COM Port under ANY Operating System, and is controlled at 115.2K Baud.  This device also includes a XR expansion port, allowing you to control relays by plugging in XR expansion boards.

If you are new to our products,  we would like to introduce a term we call "ProXR".  ProXR refers to a set of standardized commands used for computer control and data collection.  A controller that supports the ProXR command set  is a controller that is built to control up to 256 relays, using commands that can be sent to any controller that offers ProXR compatibility.  This allows software developers to create programs for our products, then upgrade or change connectivity options without having to rewrite their software.  ProXR commands can be sent to our controllers via the RS-232 serial port, the USB port, Wireless ZigBee, Ethernet, and Wi-Fi 802.11b...all without rewriting your software....simply develop your programs to work with the serial port of your computer.  Let ProXR controllers manage the rest.

Building a solid foundation for future hardware is what ProXR is all about.  We have worked hard to modularize the ProXR firmware in such a way that it can support growth of features without sacrificing backward compatibility.  Most controllers produced from 2007 onward will support our ProXR command set.  These controllers will also include a XR Expansion Port, allowing you to add relays to any controller you choose.  So if your needs for computer control increase, our controllers will be ready for your growth.

With all the control and backward/forward compatibility you have come to expect from the ProXR series command set, this controller allow you to send simple commands to activate relays, read the status of relays, activate up to 16 relay timers, and control up to 256 total relays using the XR expansion port.  All relays are electronically latched, simply send a command to turn the relay on, send a different command to turn the relay off.

2007 marks the release of the second generation of ProXR controllers.  New features for the RS-232 version include 8 channels of Analog to Digital Conversion, as well as many improved algorithms that allow ProXR controllers to execute your commands faster.  2007 was the year we Modularized the ProXR command set...it is now ready for future generations of growth...so be on the lookout.

Above: The ProXR Series controllers are capable of controlling up to 256 relays.  Weather you need power switching or DPDT signal switching, the ProXR Series are built from the ground up with Expansion in mind.  Simply Chain the XR Expansion Modules, one after another, to meet your computer controlled switching requirements. (click picture to enlarge)

This ProXR series controller offers RS-232 serial communications, requiring only a 12VDC Power Supply.  Once powered up, the controller waits for a command.  A command consists of a few bytes of data.  Usually between 2 and 6 bytes.  Once the command has been received, the controller processes the command, and sends you back ASCII character code 85 to signal the completion of your command.

You can send commands to program the output resistance of each individual output, or you program all outputs at the same time.  Other commands allow you to set the startup resistance of each output.   The ProXR command set allows you to send commands to activate relays, deactivate relays, control all the relays at one time, plus you can send commands that tell a relay to turn on for a few seconds, minutes, or hours.  You can assign 16 timers to any of the 256 relays, and set the timers to go off after the duration has expired.

We have also added a Server Reboot Pulse timing feature that is particularly useful for rebooting up to 16 servers.  It works like this.  Connect the RESET wires on your motherboard to the Normally Open and Common connections on any of the 256 possible relays.

Next, send a command to the relay controller to activate up to 16 Server Reboot timers.  You can specify hours, minutes, and seconds as part of the command.  Your program should constantly reset the clock built into the relay controller.  If the computer ever crashes, it cannot reset the clock built into the relay controller.  When the timer expires on the relay controller, the relay will send a reboot pulse to any of the 256 relays, rebooting your computer.

The features list of the ProXR series controllers is extensive.  Our ProXR Software helps get you acquainted with the powerful command set.  Should you have any questions, please contact us.
